I bought this textbook for OB and Peds and after having taken both classes, I honestly feel like burning this textbook. Like I said in the title, this is the worst textbook I have used to date. This is throughout my entire educational experience, not just nursing school. The reasons are as follows:Cons:
Poor editing - This book is riddled with errors.
Contradictory information - There is nothing more frustrating that reading about a given value in one page and two pages down, getting a different value for the same thing. This of course may be attributable to the poor editing or due to there being two authors but given how much I paid, I should not have to consult another book in order to get something I can use.
Poor layout - This text has the most illogical and irritating layout ever. The tables and boxes for a given topic/subtopic typically appear in the middle of the next topic/subtopic which throws you off your stride as you read through the text book. Really annoying.
Online answers to book questions - Why they could not put the answers in the back of the book is beyond me. All the answers to the end of chapter questions are online. If you don't have the online code, you can't access them.
Pros:
Full text online: You need a code to access the online text but once you do, it is really handy. You can even print out the entire book online if you wish.
Wish I could think of more pros but that is it. If you have to use this book, I sympathize.

So glad I chose this company..the book was exactly as explained in the reviews...100% satisfied! No scuffs, marks, writings etc. Would highly recommended! If u are a review person before u buy, look nomore!!! This is where it's at!!! No doubt about it;-)
Not a bad book. Illustrations were really good. The questions for review were a little off subject. It is pretty weird to have the answers in a different location...i.e. on the web site. But the book is available on the website in PDF which was good. I think it would be a good reference book. I wouldn't used their numbers or parameters because its a little different from other material...ATI or HESI. I like the format or layout when used problem, assessment and intervention. Which is how alot of the comprehensive books were laid out. So it is more of a comprehesive textbook.
Took the first test in maternity and barely passed this book is an ok read but if u want better understanding please review ati and Saunders this is not enough.
This text has Lots of contradictory statements and it is too wordy. The authors did not do a good job. If it was left to this book I would hate maternity and pediatric nursing. The upcoming students in my class will be happy they don't have to use this book.
The only thing this book is useful for is getting a very basic idea of maternal/pediatric care and procedures, and getting started on care-plans. The rest is a bit vague and scattered. I have to refer to other books and online resources to get a better understanding of what we learn about in class.
good information
First of all, as others have mentioned, this textbook is riddled with errors and contradictions. My professor even said she doesn't want to use this text again because it is so terrible.
Second of all mine had PAGES MISSING (at least 30 right in the pregnancy section) despite being brand new. No they were not cut out, the binding is intact they were clearly just missed when the book came from the manufacturer.
NOT worth the money. I wish nursing instructors would stop assigning this book.
